Exotic Destination was founded in Madurai in 2013 by Visakan Murugesan — born and raised in the shadow of the Meenakshi Amman Temple, with an instinctive knowledge of South India's sacred geography, its seasonal festivals, its hidden roads and its most generous hosts.
The business began simply: a deep belief that South India deserved better storytelling. Not the crowded bus tours, not the rushed pilgrimage circuits, not the generic OTA packages — but genuine, personally curated journeys that gave travellers access to the real South India.
Over a decade later, Exotic Destination has arranged hundreds of journeys across Tamil Nadu and Kerala — each one different, each one personal, each one beginning and ending with a conversation between our team and the traveller.
Born and raised in Madurai, Visakan has spent his entire career in South India travel — first as a local guide, then as a tour coordinator, and since 2013 as the founder of Exotic Destination. He personally oversees every itinerary the company designs, and remains directly reachable to every client who travels with us.
Exotic Destination is officially recognised by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India — verifying our legitimacy, our standards of service and our commitment to responsible tourism. This recognition is not automatic; it requires demonstrated compliance with national tourism standards.
